Our Story

Hi! My name is Rachael, and I own and run Hidden Acres Flower Farm with the help from my husband, two children and two hound dogs. We are a small family run operation on 4 acres. I’ve been growing vegetables and flowers since I was young with no formal training-just instinct and generations of family history pushing me along. With the help of my husband’s construction and engineering expertise, the idea of a legitimate farm slowly became a reality. Our children thrive outdoors seemingly already drawn to getting their hands dirty and growing things. We are incredibly fortunate to have found this space as one of the last of its kind in our area. Our farm is nestled amongst subdivisions at the end of a dirt road- quite literally “hidden” in plain sight.

Thus, the name “Hidden Acres” was born.

Hidden Acres Flower Farm’s earliest beginnings really originated from purchasing a dilapidated farmhouse located next door to our current property 10 years ago. It was a 100-year-old, tiny one-owner farmhouse that fell right into our hands and we eagerly jumped at the opportunity to renovate and make it our first home. The property sat on an acre of well cared for gardens with mature grapevines, irises, fruit trees, ancient rose bushes and a large vegetable garden space. We spent years enjoying that first property and its history. In 2018 we were presented with the opportunity to purchase the property directly next door.

Clearing the Land

The property next door was much of the same- a slightly larger, very old, one-owner farmhouse that needed completely renovated as well. We lived in one as we renovated the other and eventually moved over into the new property which at the time sat on just shy of an acre. There is tremendous history in this little hidden cove. We’re one of the last few undeveloped larger parcels in the area. We’ve always felt it’s our duty as the next generation to preserve what we can and restore what we’re able to, doing our best to bring this land back to the farmland it once was.

In 2020, 4 acres of completely untouched raw land right next door came up for sale. It was completely overgrown with tall grass, shrubs and a lot of trees, and it proposed for development of yet another subdivision. After some research, a big “Ah-Ha!” moment, lengthy rezoning process we were able to acquire the land. We had a ton of work on our hands clearing the land, laying gravel, installing irrigation and getting the soil ready to plant that first year of cut flower crops.

Below are a few pictures of the earliest seasons from our farm.

Growing Organically

We grow as organically as possible forgoing the use of pesticides, chemicals and fertilizers that aren’t safe for the children and animals that call this farm home. We are always working to rebuild soil health from years of neglect and reintroducing shrubs and trees, welcoming back the birds and pollinator friends restoring our little ecosystem. It’s a constant work in progress.

Our flowers are for sale to those in the floral industry, events and to the crafty DIY creator. You can also find our wrapped market bouquets for sale throughout the Grand Valley during the growing season. At this time, we cannot accommodate visitors to the farm.
